The aim of the awards is to give fans and Ghanaians the opportunity to vote for and celebrate deserving sports personalities and institutions.
Mr Emmanuel Akrumah, General Manager of Happy FM, said the awards represent the perfect opportunity for sports fans to recognize, vote for, and celebrate the people who they deemed were the most outstanding sports icons in the year.
He said fans would have 100 per cent voting power to choose personalities and sports disciplines enlisted in the various categories.
A technical team made up of 10 eminent personalities in the sports industry would oversee the selection of personalities and organizations that deserve to be honoured, he said.
The categories for the 2014 GSFA include: “Sports Personality of the Year”; “Footballer of the Year” ; “Ghana Premier League Player of the Year”; “Athlete of the Year”; “Boxer of the Year ”; and “Sports Coach of the Year.”
Other Categories are “Sports Discipline of the Year”; “Supporters Group of the Year”; “Exemplary Leadership in Sports Development”; as well as the “Unsung Hero of the Year”.
