Accra, June 30, GNA - France delivered a 4-3
victory over Argentina in the first 1\16 stage of the 2018 Federation of
International Football Association (FIFA) World Cup in Russia.
The French took an early lead through a penalty converted by Antoine Griezman in the 13th minute after Kylian Mbape was brought down in the "18".
Argentina levelled up in the 41st minute through Angel Di Maria to end the first half. The South Americans returned in the second half to increase the tally in the 48th minute.
A Lionel Messi shot, which deflected off Gabriel Marcado's put the French goalkeeper on the side for the much needed leader.
Benjamin Parvard secured a spectacular equaliser for France in the 57th minute, through a mid-air drive, to bring France back into the game.
But the hero of the day, Mbape scored in the 84th and 68th minute for France to put the game beyond the reach of Argentina.
The South Americans fought back intensely in the rest of the game but could only manage a goal from Sergio Aguero in the 90th minute, which was not enough to keep them in the competition.
