Kumasi (Ash), July 31, GNA - The Rotary Club of Kumasi - Nhyiaeso District (9102), is providing educational and health support to a 16-year old visually-impaired boy to keep him in school to develop his inner potentials.
Master Isaiah Ofori has been diagnosed of bilateral maculopathy and amblyopia, a secondary low vision condition, which reduces vision in both eyes.
His condition was first detected after he had taken part in a free public medical screening organised by the Club two months ago, at Mater Dei Clinic at Santasi in Kumasi.
Ms. Gifty Odartey, President of the Club, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), on the side-line of a meeting in Kumasi that Master Ofori was then referred to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital for further checks.
After comprehensive medical checks, a medical report issued by the hospital, indicated that the teenager would need rehabilitation to manage his condition, in order not to truncate his education.
“In view of this, the Rotary Club has decided as part of its outreach and service programmes, to come to the aid of this unfortunate boy and help him realise his dreams in life”, she noted.
Master Ofori is being assisted to get admission to the Okuapeman Senior High School in the Eastern Region, and as a result of this, the Club has donated a suitcase and chop-box to him.
Consequently, an account has been opened with the GT Bank with the number (3011147321660) with the bank providing the initial deposit of GH¢50.00. This is to enable donors and philanthropists offer their help.
Reverend Solomon Acquah, Service Project Director for the Club, said the meeting was to discuss service projects of the Club for the month of July, this year.
It was also to deliberate on the vision and mission of the Club, especially those relating to the welfare of humanity, as well as improving its membership base and community transformational programmes.
Ms. Gertrude Adzo Akpalu, Assistant Governor and Member of the Rotary Club of Accra East, advised the leadership of the Club to inspire members to embrace leadership training and life-transforming projects.
