Tokwai Asuboa, (Ash), Feb. 28 GNA - A heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds on Monday evening, destroyed several buildings including classroom blocks in three nearby communities in the Asante-Akim South Municipality.
The communities were Tokwai Asuboi, Atta Ne Atta and Dwendwenase.
All the three basic schools in the Dwendwenase community - the D/A Primary, D/A Junior High School and Presbyterian primary schools had their roofing ripped off.
Thirty two (32) private buildings in the community, were also severely affected by the devastating storm.
The primary schools at Atta Ne Attah and Tokwai Asuboi also suffered similar fate.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Alexander Frimpong who led a team of officials from the assembly to assess the extent of damage caused by the storm, sympathized with the affected people and promised the Assembly's support.
He tasked officials of the Ghana Education Service in the municipality to liaise with community leaders to look for temporary place for the schools to continue their academic work, while the assembly made urgent arrangements to fix the problem.
Mr. Samuel Darkwah, the Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) advised the people to periodically maintain their buildings to help prevent such disasters.
Nana Owusu Akyem Tenten, Chief of Dwendwenase appealed to the assembly to ensure swift response to the disaster, saying any delay could have adverse effect on academic work in the schools.
