Nkoranza, April 30, GNA The Nkoranza Police have arrested a21-year-old driver, Thomas Kofi Frimpong, from Offinso in the Ashanti Region,for allegedly stealing a Nissan Almera taxi-cab.
Two other accomplices Nana Yaw, 28, and Kwaku Antwi, 25, have also beenapprehended by the Police.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Owusu, Nkoranza MunicipalPolice Commander told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkoranza that Frimpong wasarrested upon a tip-off at Dwenewoho near Kyirefene, a farming community in theMunicipality.
He said on Saturday, April 19, Frimpong abandoned the vehicle behindAntwis house in the village, and gave the keys to Nana Yaw his friend, to sellthe car.
DSP Owusu said Frimpong was demanding GH 4,000 for the vehicle, whilethose prepared to buy offered GH 3,000 and after negotiations Frimpong agreedto sell it for GH 3,500.
He said on Tuesday, April 22,Frimpong arranged with some police personnel for a meeting at Offinso to payfor the vehicle.
DSP Owusu said the police met Frimpong at Asempanaye near Offinso forthe final bargaining and payment for the vehicle, and in the process, he wasarrested.
He alleged that Frimpong stole the vehicle from Winneba, becausedocuments covering it were registered at the Winneba Drivers and VehicleLicensing Division (DVLD) Office in the Efutu-Awutu District.
In addition, he might have used the vehicle for robbery, since thewindscreen had been broken from suspected bullet penetration.
DSP Owusu said the suspects have been sent to the Sunyani PoliceHeadquarters for further interrogation.
