Tamale, Nov. 30, GNA - A week-long agric fair has opened in Tamale kick-starting activities towards this year's National Farmers' Day celebration slated for Friday, December 7 in the Northern Regional Capital.
Various agro products including tractors, irrigation equipment and farm produce are on display at the fair whiles various cultural troupes drawn from all the 10 regions will be performing to herald the day.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President, whose speech was read on his behalf by the Northern Regional Minister during the opening of the fair in Tamale on Friday, urged all to explore opportunities available at the sector to improve production.
Dr Nurah Gyeile, Minister of State at the Ministry of Agriculture, said government's agricultural policy was working as production was improving.
Dr Gyeile said the level of enthusiasm and interest amongst the citizenry for the Planting for Food and Jobs programme was encouraging saying the programme was yielding results.
He said government would continue to work to address the challenges in the sector saying efforts are being made to scale up the use of certified seeds and other technologies to improve production.
