Accra, Dec.7, GNA - The Amen Amen Institute, an autonomous institution, has presented a cash amount of GH¢5,000.00 and food stuffs to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in aid of the commemoration of the 2019 Farmers' Day celebration.
The Institute, which is a partner to the United Nations, had earlier in October, this year, donated a cheque for GH¢10,000.00 to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to support the ‘World Food Day' commemoration.
The national theme for the celebration was; “Enhancing Small Scale Agriculture towards Agribusiness Development.”
Amen Amen Reynolds Amen, the Founding President of the Institute, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said it was a responsibility of every citizen who was financially or technically capable to encourage the good works of others and support the needy and vulnerable.
“Therefore, we only did what we felt was our responsibility to contribute to the welfare of humanity,” he said.
He said agriculture contributed most, to national development, hence the need for a collaborative effort and support to steer its growth.
Mr Mohammed Adjei Sowah, the Chief Executive of the AMA, commended the Institute for the constant support towards agricultural growth.
He said the Assembly had noticed that farm lands were being lost to developers and, therefore, encouraged backyard farming among all households for access to fresh, natural and healthy foods.
Mr Sowah urged people who wished to use their backyards for framing to consult the Agricultural Department of the Assembly or Agriculture Offices in their areas for guidance and support.GNA
