Credit Unionists urged to adopt healthy habits
Ho, Jan 31, GNA- Mad Catherine Gabianu of the Credit Union Association (CUA) of Ghana Thursday advised Credit Union members to adopt healthy habits.
This is because the survival of the Credit Union movement in Ghana depends on members continued good health.
Madam Gabianu gave the advice at the 16th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the New Vision Co-operative Credit Union in Ho on the theme, Credit Union partnering with government in socio-economic development of the Nation.
She is the Health Educator at CUA,Ghana.
Madam Gabianu explained that unhealthy Credit Union members were inclined towards
stopping savings and withdrawing what they had saved in order to seek treatment and cure for their ailments.
In that situation the Credit Union would die slowly and become extinct over time, she said, citing the example of Kenya where the onset of Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV) and the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome prompted wholesale withdrawal of
savings by members which almost killed the credit union movement in that country where the Credit Union movement was very popular even among government officials.
Madam Gabianu therefore urged members to undertake routine health checks, watch
what they eat help maintain clean environment and avoid lifestyles which pre-dispose
them to lifestyle diseases.
She said those who were busy pursuing other things at the expense of their health were predisposing themselves to sudden on-set of stroke and death.
Madam Gabianu said if for nothing, breadwinners must at least think of their children and dependants, and take their health seriously.
Your health is very, very important, she said.
