GIFEC wins 2013 World Communication award

Accra, May 31, GNA “ The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), has won the 2013 Communication, Multimedia and Infrastructure Association of India™s (CMAI) 7th National Telecom Awards.

The Award was in recognition of GIFEC™s excellent performance in the operation of the Universal Access Fund and Service.

It was organised by CMAI with the support of the International Telecom Union (ITU), the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation, the Government of India and several Industry Associations.

Mr Kofi Attor, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GIFEC, who received the Award on behalf of Ghana said the recognition of the organisation as the Most Outstanding Universal Access Fund, has placed Ghana as the foremost nation in the provision of access to electronic communications.

He said Ghana has made strides in the provision of basic telephony, information communication technology (ICT), broadcasting, internet and multi-media service to the un-served and underserved communities.

Mr Attor said GIFEC was nominated alongside many universal service funds and awarded as the śBest and Excellent Universal Access Fundť based on successes chalked out since the establishment of the agency in 2004 to support and promote technology for the underserved and rural people.

Mr Attor said GIFEC remain focused on its mandate and consider the provision of electronic communication service and access as very critical success factors in the nation™s ICT development agenda to offer a sustainable universal access to electronic communications that would promote social and economic development of the people through best practices.

He said the fund is also determined to ensure that policies, transactions and services are conducted in a very transparent manner and that all clients are treated equally, irrespective of race, gender, religion or nationality.

GIFEC is an agency of the Ministry of Communication to facilitate the provision of basic telephony to un-served and underserved communities in the country.

The CMAI Association is a professional registered Association in India that promotes the Indian Information Technology (IT) and Telecom Sector. It is an apex body with partners and representatives all over the world.
