TMA and SyPhics Studios launch AfroFesT 2019

Tema, Dec 4, GNA - The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and SyPhics Studios, an innovative multimedia outfit, have launched the third edition of AfroFest in Tema dubbed “Afro Xmas 2019”.

AfroFest is a 7-day festival that seeks to unite and showcase the rich Ghanaian culture and puts Tema and Ghana on the map of cultural excellence.

Across the Diaspora, Ghana is touted for its vibrancy through fashion, cuisine and music and AfroFest 2019 would be a platform to unite the people and an avenue to display rich African culture. 

The event, organized by the TMA under the auspices of the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La and managed by SyPhics Studios Limited, in collaboration with Renegades Africa, 4SYTE TV, and a consortium of young talented men with varied experiences in events management.

Speaking at the launch of this year’s festival over the weekend, the MCE of Tema said “our collective agenda is to plant seeds in the Arts and Entertainment space, which would be nurtured to blossom and bear fruits for generations unborn.”

He said the future of Tema lay in the hands of the youth and adequate support was needed for their development and empowerment to enable them realize their talents and full potential.

According to Mr Nii Anang-La, upon assumption as Mayor he introduced the Tema Registration Agenda which sought to bring back the lost glory of Tema and said his vision to improve the city’s infrastructure; roads, schools, health facilities amongst others, also included the restoration of the entertainment and the night life of Tema.

“Couple of decades back, Tema could boast of notable entertainment icons in music, with very active night clubs and pubs which contributed to the local economy and ensured its development.” he explained, adding that, the events lined up would kick-start the Tema entertainment revolution to rekindle the once vibrant city of Tema.

He reiterated his readiness to revive entertainment in Tema, citing his participation in the “Special Life Walk” organised by Musician Sarkodie and friends, and his recent “This is Tema” musical concert which attracted thousands of youth.

Mr Oscar Mawuli Nuwati, Public Relations Officer of SyPhics Studios, addressing the media said, since its establishment in 2011, his outfit has had the opportunity of bringing its vision to life by providing artworks for award-winning music artistes across the African continent and promoting talented Ghanaian performers at the global level.

The seven day festival , he emphasized was remarkable as it was the fifth edition which coincided with government’s “Year of Return” initiative intended to encourage Africans in the Diaspora to return to Africa, settle and invest in the continent.

He intimated that, Ghana remained pioneer in spreading its vibrancy through fashion, cuisine and African styled music across the world, and AfroFest provided a platform to celebrate and showcase the African culture.

A durbar of chiefs and industry players, food festival and Carols, community games and stunt biking, AfroFest street party with an array of cultural performances and displays, Masquerade Show, kids party  and donation at the Tema General Hospital were some activities slated for the seven day programme starting December 21, he said.
