Sefwi-Asafo (W/NR), Dec 03, GNA - The Sefwi- Asafo College of health in the Waiwso Municipality of the Western North Region has held its second Matriculation for a total of 371 students.

The event was on the theme “ensuring quality training for quality health care."

Principal of the college, Mrs Yaa Aframah, who administered the Matriculation oath said the colleges of nursing training have become competitive as a result of the introduction of nursing trainee allowance and therefore needed the requisite resources to manage them.

She indicated that a lot of applications were received, but the college could not admit all due to limited facilities.

According to her, 260 of the students were offering registered general nursing, while 80 were pursuing diploma in nutrition and 31 offering nutrition assistance

The Principal mentioned, inadequate lecture halls, hostels, lack of administration block, inadequate potable drinking water and the lack of accommodation for staff among others as the challenges confronting the school and appealed to the government and other institutions to assist the college.

Mrs Aframah said the college was able to construct additional five classrooms with the support from the community, increased enrollment and   mechanised the salaries of most of the college's casual workers.

She said the college would roll out new programmes in the next academic year.

The Principal advised the students to be mindful of their core responsibilities on campus in order to pass both their internal and external examinations.

She cautioned them against cheating during exams, adding that anyone caught would be punished.

Mr Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, Western North Regional Minister pledged that the Regional coordinating council would support the college to improve on its infrastructure and appealed to the students to accept postings to rural areas after their training.

The occasion was used to reward best and disciplined students and teaching and non-teaching staff.
