Health Minister calls for efficient management of health resources

Ho, June 12, GNA - Mr Kweku Agyemang Manu, Minister for Health has called on staff of the Service to manage resources efficiently towards attainment of universal health coverage.

The Minister, at a meeting with stakeholders in the health sector in Ho, said departments and agencies should consider collaboration and resource pooling to ease the burden on the Service.

"Let's work together for easier collaboration and better performance of the health sector," he said, and charged facilities to consider Internally Generated Funds (IGF) optimisation to fund their programmes.

Mr Agyemang Manu said young staffs in particular must acquire driving and other skills to reduce the load of auxiliary staff on the Service.

He noted that the Service grappled with office space constraints, and advised that agencies and departments should consider coming together to build needed working and residential spaces.

The Minister also said health institutions abound and must be positioned to help enhance delivery, whiles calling for efficient deployment of personnel.

He said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his quest to meet fully the health needs of the people, had committed to the equitable distribution of healthcare services across the country, and that the Ministry was taking stock of challenges and would extend future budgets to cover them.

Mr Agyemang Manu earlier said at a meeting with staff of the Keta Municipal Hospital, that Global Fund, a donor partner was working with the Service to improve the drug supply chain, and had introduced a robust Logistics Management Information system to that effect.

The Minister who is touring health facilities and institutions in the Region, commended management of the Ho Municipal Hospital for investments made with their IGF, and said other facilities must utilise resources to strengthen health delivery.

The Minister was taken around the Accident and Emergency Unit, which the Hospital was constructing to include a mini theatre, and pharmacy among other units.

Mr Agyemang Manu visited the Regional Medical Stores and hinted of the possibility of locally producing paracetamol products, and some vitamins.

His entourage on Monday inspected construction works on the ultra modern Weta Municipal Hospital in the Ketu North Municipality; one of five such facilities funded with an 80 million Euro grant from Austria.
