Farmer in court for possessing cannabis

Hohoe (V/R), May 14, GNA - Yao Humali, a farmer at Hohoe Low-cost in the Volta Region has been arraigned before a Hohoe Circuit Court for unlawful possession of cannabis (Indian Hemp).

Humali, who was on bail pleaded not guilty and will reappear on May 27.

Police Inspector George Doe told the court that on August 27, 2018 at about 0950 hours, the police in the Municipality received information that Humali was selling Indian hemp on a cassava farm near the charcoal market in Hohoe.

He said upon the arrival of the police at the place where Humali was selling the substance, they found suspected leaves of Indian Hemp, which weighed 2,413.73 grams spread on a black polythene rubber.

The police also found a suspected Indian hemp plant materials weighing 1,986.16 grams spread on the ground.

Inspector Doe said when Humali was arrested, he offered an amount of GHยข108.00 to the police officers as bribe in order to be freed adding that the officers took the money before dragging him to the police station.

He said upon interrogation, Humali told the police that the Indian Hemp belonged to a man he mentioned as Innocent but failed to lead the police to his arrest.

Inspector George Doe told the court that tests conducted on the substances at the police forensic laboratory in Accra confirmed them to be cannabis.
