Accra, Nov.30 GNA - Mr. Eric Henaku, the Vice Captain of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA), has said, the Association is seeking for more corporate sponsorship to aid professional golfers to earn more from the sport.

Mr. Henaku made this known at the ongoing Goldfields PGA Damang championship.

He hailed the high performance of over 70 golfers, saying they have exhibited great swings at the fifth Gold Fields PGA Golf Championship.

“We are working hard to get more sponsors on board, by getting more tournaments for professionals to play and make some money.

"We are rolling out a project for 2019 to seek sponsorship from corporate bodies, which would be aimed at growing the sport in Ghana and also to gain the recognition it deserves through a collaborating with the Youth and Sports Ministry”.

According to him, this year has recorded very close scores as compared to last year, an indication that golfers were working hard to improve on their skills.

"It has been a very competitive event and golfers have shown that they are taking the sports seriously.”

Mr. Henaku, expressed appreciation to Goldfields for increasing the prize money for the year, adding that the sport was not lesser known, as being described in the country.

“Golf is a well-known sport across the world and in Ghana as well, but we need to push it further to the school levels to whip up more interest.

“We thank our sponsors, Goldfields for increasing the prize money for the year, we know our relationship with Goldfields, have grown over the years and we are certain that it would be bigger in years to come,” he added.

Meanwhile, the likes of defending champion Kojo Barnni, Amos Korblah the former champion as well as other golfers outside Ghana are exhibiting high professionalism with intense competition, which organizers are anticipating a tight finish like the previous year.
