Owoahene Acheampong calls for adjudication panel restructuring at GFA

By Dennis Osei Gyamfi, GNA

Accra, Oct.31, GNA - Mr Owoahene Acheampong, Chairman of the Division One League Board (DOLB) has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to change its administrative structures including that of the adjudication committee.

Mr Acheampong, who was not happy with the current structure of the adjudication panel of the GFA because of the inconsistencies it creates in the football calendar by the slow pace at which they adjudicate cases brought before them.

He said the current composition, which makes room for more than one adjudicator to sit on cases makes it complicated because they find it difficult to form a quorum.

In an interview with the GNA Sports, he explained that “the clubs suffer” when cases are delayed, adding that, the GFA must adopt “competition rules” where it can introduce the sole judge system to ensure quick decisions of cases before it.

“We are doing our report to the GFA and I am asking for a competition regulation instead of what is done normally.”

Mr Acheampong said, “We need a sole judge system, where a single judge will sit on the case. If they (clubs) are not satisfied they can then appeal and another sole judge would adjudicate it. We don’t want the case of we are waiting for quorum to be formed which takes too much time.

We are asking that the sole judge system be considered to deal with the cases, and also that football issues should be dealt with dispassionately.”

He cited an instance when the Division One Zone One season this year had to wait for weeks before its official closure due to delays in reviewing cases long after the season had closed.

Mr Acheampong said this situation left the eventual champions of the zone, Eleven Wonders with little time to “prepare well” for the premier league campaign, giving others the competitive edge over them.
