Nkawie (Ash), Sept 30, GNA – A GH¢160,000.00 multi-purpose office built by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in Nkawie, in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District, has been inaugurated with a call to teachers to strive to become adept in the use of the computer.

Mr. David Ofori Acheampong, the General Secretary, said they should put premium on information and communication technology (ICT) skills acquisition.

This was necessary given the gradual phasing-out and replacement of the “log books, registers and cumulative booklets” with computers and electronic devices for data recording and processing.

It was therefore in their own interest to get used to the computer to properly function “in today’s digital world”.

The building, which comes with a 500-capacity conference hall, transit quarters, library, offices, washrooms and kitchenette would tremendously enhance the operation of the Association in the area.

Mr. Acheampong reminded teachers to show genuine commitment, love and passion for the job they were doing.

They should avoid lateness, absenteeism, and to see to it that they effectively utilized the school contact hours to raise performance.

Additionally, he said, it was important for them to show self-discipline – carry themselves well, to become good example to the children they were teaching and others in the community

He counseled against doing anything unethical that could hurt the image of the teaching profession.

Mr. Charles Kwaku Adu Ntim Achamfour, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of GNAT, spoke of the need to do more to motivate teachers to give it their all.

He asked that the right conditions were also created in the schools for smooth teaching and learning.
