Winneba (C/R), Aug. 30, GNA “ Mr Kofi Mintah, a founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has congratulated the party for winning the 2012 presidential election petition.
Mr Mintah also congratulated Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the first petitioner for conceding defeat and congratulating President John Dramani Mahama.
He commended the Supreme Court for giving a wise verdict which was acceptable to all factions in the petition.
Mr Mintah, a former Central Regional Chairman of the party made the comments when speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Winneba.
He said the behaviour of the two leaders of the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in accepting the verdict was a healthy sign for peace in the country.
śNo member of the NPP would misbehave as they know their leader has conceded defeat,ť he said.
He appealed to members and supporters of the NDC to be moderate in their celebration of the victory in order not to inflame passions.
śDo not do anything to tease your opponents in the celebration of the victory,ť he said, and urged Ghanaians to regard the ruling as victory for Ghana™s democracy.
He pointed out that the petition would definitely bring some reforms into the electoral system to prevent the re-occurrence of the mistakes committed in the 2012 election.
