Akim Swedru (E/R), May 30, GNA – The Akim Swedru circuit court, has imposed a four-year prison term on a farmer for possessing a single barrel gun and 21 cartridges, without authority.
The farmer, Yaw Ansah, a resident of Aperade near Akim Achiase in the Eastern Region, also threatened to kill Madam Comfort Asare, a trader.
Ansah pleaded guilty to two counts of “threat of death,” and “possessing firearms without authority,” when he appeared before the trial judge, Mr. Yaw Atta Sampong.
Upon his own plea, Ansah was sentenced to two years imprisonment on the first count and another two years imprisonment on count two.
Briefing the court, Police Inspector Sabian Sellah, said Madam Asare and Ansah lived in the same town, but they were not on good talking terms.
He said on May 8, at about 17:30 hours, Nana Kwadwo Sarkodie, Aperade-based fetish priest hinted Madam Asare that, Ansah had plans to kill her, and that according to the plan, Ansah would have written a letter and placed besides her to indicate that he killed her, after which he would also kill himself.
Inspector Sallah said the fetish priest sensing the diabolical intention of Ansah, therefore, advised Madam Asare to lodge a complaint with the police so that he becomes a witness in the matter.
According to the inspector, Madam Asare made a report to the police and led the police to Ansah’s house where he was arrested the following day.
A search in his room revealed a single barrel gun and 21 cartridges.
