Nkawkaw Sept. 26, GNA - Ms Esther Obeng-Dapaah, Member of Parliament (MP) for New Abirem, has announced that 250 needy but brilliant Senior High School (SHS) students in the constituency had been awarded scholarships to the tune of GH¢250,000, to enable them to complete their education.
She said each student received GH¢ 100.00, and promised that 95 tertiary students would be given GH¢14,000.00 to settle their educational bills.
Ms Obeng-Dapaah, who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at New Abirem on Wednesday, said the scholarship was funded with money from her share of the MP Social Investment Fund.
She said the promise by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to make SHS education free is feasible, and appealed to the people to vote the NPP into power in December, to enable the party to implement the policy.
Ms Obeng-Dapaah, said she has planned for children with serious burns and other forms of deformity to receive plastic surgery at the Koforidua St. Joseph Hospital at the cost of GH¢8, 000.00.
The MP said she had provided solar lights to 12 communities in the district at the cost of 5,000, dollars and some vulnerable persons in five communities in the district would be registered under the National Health Insurance Scheme free of charge.
She advised NPP supporters in the constituency to intensify their house- to- house campaign to ensure absolute electoral victory for NPP in December.
